It’s an exclusive group composed of every Republican U.S. Senator (except Mitt Romney, who wasn’t invited) and a dozen others, or more. The headline from Daines’ press release reads:
Honored to Be On President Trump’s Historic Taskforce to Safely Reopen America
Details are sketchy on this “Historic Taskforce.” Information on when and where it would meet, or if there would be a timeline on recommendations, has not been released.
Economic expert Ivanka Trump and health care professional Jared Kushner were mentioned as possible task force members but have since been sidelined. The task force also includes Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross, Agriculture Secretary Sonny Purdue, Transportation Secretary Elaine Chao, and other Cabinet members. According to Vox:
(Trump) said it will be comprised of “great business leaders” and “great doctors” and will probably be done by teleconference. When asked whether it would be bipartisan, Trump suggested maybe: “Bipartisan? I didn’t even ask. I mean, honestly, I think it’s bipartisan. The one thing I didn’t ask, ‘Are you Republican or a Democrat?’ Hard to believe, but I didn’t ask. So it would be. And I want their views on what they think.”
ABC FOX Montana followed up on the senator’s announcement with some hard-hitting journalism, allowing Daines to expand on his news release, again using the “bipartisan” buzzword although to date not one Democrat is listed on the task force.
It’s hard to tell who’s in charge of “Reopening America” as Trump at first suggested in a series of tweets that it was his call, and then backed off:
Daines concluded his announcement with this statement:
It is an honor to work alongside President Trump on this historic taskforce (sic).
The Montana Post is looking forward to this august task force’s recommendations and will keep readers in the loop.
