2020 Senate Race Featured Montana Politics Steve Daines

Great Story in the Bozeman Daily Chronicle Shows Just How Afraid of His Constituents Steve Daines Is

Unlike some media outlets that report on staged Gianforte-Daines meetings with handpicked constituents like they are actual town halls, the Bozeman Chronicle did a real service to readers in today’s story about a Steve Daines meeting with some folks at the Bozeman Senior Center. Everything about the story accurately conveys just how little Daines wants to meet with his constituents.

The photo accompanying the piece shows just how small the crowd was, something that could only happen when Daines refuses to give public notice of his appearances. The empty chairs in the front row were a perfect match for the empty suit speaking, though.

Asked by someone in the audience why he takes so much money from Big Pharma and whether he would stop, “Daines did not respond to the request.”

Asked when he would host a town hall to listen to Montanans, Daines “did not respond.”

Of course, Steve Daines is terrified of having to stand on his record. While he scurries around the state, desperate not to be caught in the spotlight of constituent feedback, he thinks his job is to post Fox News jabs on his Facebook feed and smear women serving in Congress.

Yesterday, the junior Senator from the greatest state in the union offered this deep insight on his Facebook page: “Best lunch in Big Timber. Good people, great burgers, and plastic straws #MTProud,” because he apparently either believes that we’re dumb enough to vote on an issue like plastic straws or he’s dumb enough to believe that taking some personal responsibility for the environment is wrong.

If you think switching to straws that won’t kill sea life is socialism, you might just be an idiot.

In the end, Montana might re-elect a Republican Senator. That’s the nature of politics, but do we really have to elect one who is both a coward and an idiot?

I think not.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.

  • Daines will never hold a real town hall and really won’t have to campaign very hard after Beto O’Rourke’s remark Thursday at Houston Democrat Debate “Hell yes we’re going to take your AR 15” In next few days we will see endless ads from Daines, Gianforte and every GOP candidate running about gun confiscation. This is very bad news for all Montana democrat candidates having to answer endless questions where they stand on this issue. I am sure we all recall Senator Tester’s ads with guns in. It is a important issue to discuss but will be turned into something that will certainly put Montana democrats on defense instead of offense. It also will drive more republicans to the polls making unfortunately I believe Montana even more red.

    • Jayme – not sure what you meant by that comment, but Jon Tester is honest and actually holds well-publicized town halls open to everybody. Daines, on the other hand – lies to cover his record, avoids the people he is supposed to represent, takes credit for bills written by our other senator, tells Montanans one thing, and then votes another way in Washington, and on and on…

  • I’ve seen Daines speak at two small private events, and I have to say – he is batshit crazy. I mean, is not able to connect with humans, doesn’t understand the context in which is he speaking (just goes on ‘robo’ repeat of something he has already said.) I don’t care if you’re Democrat, Republican or Independent, we Montanans deserve leaders that have all of their faculties and are functioning adults.
