2020 Senate Race Environment Montana Politics Steve Daines

With “conservationists” like these guys…

I just got this from our junior senator:

Senator Steve Daines was with President Trump at the White House today. During a major press conference, President Trump gave Senator Daines a great shout-out for his leadership on conservation issues. (Emphasis by Daines.)

This is on the heels of Trump expounding on what a great conservationist Trump has been, from the New York Times:

U.S. President Donald Trump boasted about his administration’s environmental record on Monday, saying America can lead the world in fighting pollution at the same time it is promoting fossil fuels, in a speech green groups derided as “utter fantasy.”

Carol Browner, who led the Environmental Protection Agency during the Clinton era said, “Trump’s environmental record is such a toxic disaster it should be declared a Superfund site.”

And Daines is as proud of his own environmental record as Trump is of his administration’s efforts to shut down the EPA, pull the U.S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, roll back vehicle mileage standards, prop up the coal industry, gut water and air quality regulations, stifle climate change science…

The League of Conservation voters gives Daines a 4% lifetime score on its National Environmental Scorecard.

If you have a strong stomach, here’s the video Daines supplied from his front row seat at Trump’s self-congratulatory announcement:

While no where in the speech does Trump actually give Daines “a great shout out for his leadership on conservation issues,” Daines picks up the mantle of environmental champion.
A former EPA senior engineer called Trump’s claims “truly Orwellian.” The same applies to Daines, and the term “Orwellian” is being kind.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
