2020 Rumors, Quotes, Possible Candidates and More!

The 2019 session has ended and it’s that time of the year again, candidate announcements. Here’s what I know.

Governor:

on the Democratic side: No one officially, but Cooney and Heenan have been rumored. I have other guesses, but I will hold off for now.

I personally just want a candidate that can win, that means they will need to prove to Democratic primary voters that they have policy bona fides, experience and ability to work together with left and right by building a coalition for victory in the primary and general and ensure the health and safety of Montana for the next four years.

Undeclared but looking at state and federal offices:

On the Democratic side: Casey Schreiner and Laurie Bishop.

I think Casey Schreiner really showed Montanans a lot in the session as I noted here:

End of the Legislature Reveals Montana’s Real Majority Leader: Casey Schreiner

I hope he runs.

He told me:

“I do have a couple irons in the fire as far as 2020.”

As to Laurie Bishop, I heard conflicting reports that some people were trying to recruit her and I also heard she may not run. I could not reach her, but applaud her for a great session as she was a wonderful caucus chair and she has also won a very tough seat in Livingston two consecutive sessions, so, she knows how to win. I want to personally thank her for working so hard to run, and win! As well as govern effectively. We should throw all those folks in tough races a few bucks.

On that note donate a few bucks to Barbara Bessette, she is an urban Native American legislator who fought hard for Montana working families in the 2019 session and represents Great Falls amazingly well! She also sits in our great friend’s seat, Jean Price, rest in peace old friend.

DONATE TO BARBARA BESSETTE HERE

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
