2018 Election Energy Environment Featured Helena Missoula Montana Legislature Montana Politics

Will Blue Wave 2018 Stretch Down the Ballot?

We have the opportunity to take back the Montana legislature this year as well as pick up a seat on the Montana Public Service Commission. The PSC only has 5 members so if we take back one this year then we have two easier pickups in 2020 in the Bozeman and Missoula seats to take it back.

(This is the first in what will be a series of posts highlighting races that are crucial to win in 2018 and deserve more recognition.)

It will take a concerted effort to connect the energy we have at the top of the ticket for Jon Tester and Kathleen Williams to those candidates running for the legislature or the Public Service Commission.

We saw in the 2017 session and special session what a bad majority in the legislature can do. We also have seen the damage that dangerous tea partiers can do on the PSC.

Want to know why we have had one new wind energy project in the state of Montana in the last decade? It’s because the current PSC is stifling this clean, cheap, renewable energy. Want to know why net metering has died in Montana year after year? It’s because the PSC and the legislature have purposefully killed it for the dirty energy industries. They don’t want competition. It’s time we take back the PSC back and bring good wind and solar energy jobs to Montana for lower power bills and the future of our planet.

Donate here to help take back the PSC.  Your 20, 50 or 100 bucks could go a long way to making it happen.

Andy Shirtliff candidate for Montana PSC on wind and solar energy:

The current PSC is stifling development of new, cleaner, and more affordable energy. It makes sense for families to lower their utility bills and it makes sense for new wind and solar business that will bring jobs and economic growth to Montana; as well as new revenue streams for local and county governments.

I support a balanced and diverse energy portfolio that includes wind and solar so we can deliver consumers the best options to keep power bills affordable and bring clean energy and good jobs to Montana.
