Meet Tyrel Suzor-Hoy, candidate for PSC

(This continuing “meet the candidate” feature at The Montana Post highlights Tyrel Suzor-Hoy, candidate for Montana Public Service Commission’s District 5, which stretches from Helena to the Flathead. If successful in his primary bid, Suzor-Hoy would face Republican incumbent Brad Johnson.)

I’m Tyrel Suzor-Hoy, the best choice for Montana’s bright future, and a fifth-generation Montanan running for the Public Service Commission to promote equity amongst all of our public goods.

I represent the 2nd district of Helena on the Helena Citizens Council, serving as a voting member on the Lewis and Clark County and City of Helena’s joint Transportation Coordination Committee. Working in the engineering industry for the Montana Department of Transportation, I understand the importance of public infrastructure. I have the great privilege to serve as Montana’s National Committeeman for the Young Democrats of America — a role which has allowed me to collaborate with politicians and professionals at a national scale.

The Public Service Commission, in its current state, is not up to the task of modernizing our grids; nor is the commission equipped to usher in the next generation of renewable energy.

I’ve lived with the struggle of affording my power bill. Working 40 hrs. a week and struggling to decide between paying for a loved one’s medication or pay for heat is an unacceptable position for anyone. There is an insidious trend of turning a blind eye to the larger issues at play.

I am a strong proponent of technological and economic development without ruining the land that we love. Without forward thinking leaders, the future of our natural resources is unclear. I am calling each and every Montanan to action. Allow me to represent you by diversifying our energy portfolio, bring internet to every household, and being a representative you can trust to keep the infrastructure we rely on safe.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
