This is what Democracy looks like.
The reaction to Trump in our supposed red state has been incredible.
We are united, moving forward, not stopping.
This week there are four great events I will highlight in Helena.
Everyone should try to attend at least one if not all of these events.
Two of them are on Monday, President’s Day, a holiday.
Monday 2/20 – President’s Day
Join equality advocacy groups from across the state for a full day of advocacy and community building to ensure that all Montanans can live, work, and play in Montana free from discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
Spend the morning at the Capitol talking with our elected officials about the importance of clear statewide protections from discrimination. In the afternoon, head to Plymouth Congregational to build our understanding and our skillsets to ensure we are growing a long-term sustainable movement.
At the end of the day, join us at Blackfoot Brewing for a Community Night in support of the Pride Foundation.
Monday 2/20 – President’s Day
On Monday, the House Judiciary Committee is set to vote to force guns into our public K-12 schools. The kids have the day off, so we’re showing up with the real stakeholders in this game. We’ll make them look our children in the eye when they cast this incredibly reckless vote. (And maybe it’ll change some minds).
We’ll gather at the MT Capitol outside Room 137 at around 10am. When they’re ready to take Executive Action (vote) we’ll come in and fill the room. This is gonna be a powerful statement, Moms!
Tuesday 2/21 – 12:30 – Capitol Steps
Dear Steve Daines,
You were warned.
You were given an explanation.
Nevertheless you persisted in ignoring your constituents.
Senator Daines is going to be in Helena addressing the Montana legislature, so we will bring the town hall to him!
Let’s tell Senator Daines that we oppose repeal of ACA/Medicaid/Medicare, we support investigation of the Russian influence in our elections, we would like the Senate to force Trump to release his tax returns and divest himself of his conflicts of interest, we support an independent judiciary, we oppose LGBTQ discrimination.
We oppose the Muslim ban and the wall, we stand with Standing Rock, we support public schools for all, we believe in climate change and support protection of the environment and public lands, and we support immigrants, Muslims, and people of color in our state and country!
His misogyny has no place in politics!
Rep. Bryce Bennett Introduced the Legislation Removing Restrictions on Solar Energy.
The Bill Answers Montanans’ Call for Solar Jobs and Energy Freedom. Rep. Bryce Bennett (D-Missoula) introduced legislation to allow Montana homeowners and businesses to choose solar and encourage growth in Montana’s solar industry. HB 504 comes in response to an unprecedented call from Montanans for legislators to remove obstacles to solar energy development in the state.
- “I have received comments from over 5,000 Montanans from all across the state in support of solar jobs and energy freedom,” said Bennett. “Montanans from all walks of life want to see us work together on this. Republicans and Democrats can agree that solar is the Montana way and Montanans deserve the freedom to make our own energy choices.”
Legislators from both parties are supporting HB 504. Rep. Adam Rosendale (R-Billings), Rep. Denise Hayman (D-Bozeman), Rep. Mike Hopkins (R-Missoula) and Rep. Zach Brown (D-Bozeman) have joined with Rep. Bennett to co-sponsor the bill.
