It’s all coming too fast.
I am a political junkie and I could not name all the frightening changes of just the last 48 hours.
We are losing so much so fast that it is hard to keep track of it all.
We will have victories too though; if we stick together.
We will have good days and bad days.
It was a particularly bad day yesterday.
The zeitgeist definitely felt wrong. Everyone was crabby and scared and fighting.
Nothing was going right.
It’s ok though. We all felt it. We all have to be in this together.
We can’t give up. We can’t turn on each other. We must create this movement together.
This movement has no leader, it just has us, and we all have a job.
Everyone’s first job is to look out for each other.
If we aren’t here for each other now, then what are we fighting for?
Robert F. Kennedy made a statement during another very hard time (video here), when Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, he said this:
But we have to make an effort in the United States. We have to make an effort to understand, to get beyond, or go beyond these rather difficult times.
My favorite poem, my — my favorite poet was Aeschylus. And he once wrote:
Even in our sleep, pain which cannot forget
falls drop by drop upon the heart,
until, in our own despair,
against our will,
through the awful grace of God.
What we need in the United States is not division; what we need in the United States is not hatred; what we need in the United States is not violence and lawlessness, but is love, and wisdom, and compassion toward one another, and a feeling of justice toward those who still suffer within our country, whether they be white or whether they be black.
