What to do After the March? (Events Statewide)

Sorry about the messiness of this post, but events have already happened and many are in the next few days and I don’t want to miss publicizing them.

You need to call your Senator(Daines # is 406-443-3189) and tell them not to confirm Betsy DeVos, Scott Pruitt, or Jeff Sessions.

Event: Jan. 24 – 4pm

Tomorrow! 4pm in Kalispell at Daines’ office in the KM building!

Come tell Daines why he should vote NO on confirming DeVos and others.

50 2nd St E #105, Kalispell, MT 59901

Senator Tester has already confirmed that he will be voting no on Betsy DeVos.

Thanks Farmer Jon!

Also: Rex Tillerson, Steven Mnuchin, Ben Carson, Tom Price, and Andrew Puzder are not worthy of confirmation either, but let’s focus, you can call about them later in the week.

Tomorrow call Daines back and tell him to not repeal the Affordable Care Act or slash Social Security or Medicare.

  • Missoula Workers Council Meetings: last Wednesday of every month @ 10 AM & 6:30 PM ; Union Hall — 208 E. Main St. Missoula MT

Anyone without hire / fire power at work is welcome

    • Don, I have done nothing wrong. There is a broad range of views out there, please allow them all to be heard. Censorship is what drumpf is all about. We ALL have a right to determine what kind of state we live in. So, I don’t know who’s responsible, but STOP IT NOW the censorship of posts. Or join the fascists!

        • Well, I wrote a detailed comment regarding the above. Of course, I didn’t save a copy. But it never appeared here. The only thing I can think of is that somehow it was pulled because someone didn’t agree with it. And my concern is that now is not the time for anyone to be censoring anyone else concerned about out future.

Look, I know that some people do not like what I post, especially those in the Dem establishment. But the truth be told I was WAY ahead of the game on this one. At a meeting here in GF of the Dem party leaders some twenty plus years ago, I warned them to fight back right then and there against what I saw coming. Well, certain Dem leaders who shall remain in-named because of their close friendship to some of your writers informed me that I was way off base, and that the best way to get along was to compromise.

Well, I guess, unfortunately, now we know who was right. I WAS!

I saw this fascism beginning some thirty years ago and started speaking out about it. And for that, I was banned and ostracized nearly everywhere. And that’s just real sad, for everything that I predicted is here and now.

All I ask is a chance to comment. If the lib sites can’t even accommodate that, we really do NOT deserve to run this country.

Again, for speaking the truth about the fascists for the last thirty years, I have become a pariah.

  • Food for thought. Will all this cost more Dem seats? Not that many left now across the nation? Is this the direction you want to go?

    Sanctuary City in Butte?

    Women’s Rights?

Below is just a few. Google to see the extent.

On July 1, 2015, a man fired a stolen gun on Pier 14 in the Embarcadero district in San Francisco, California. The bullet ricocheted off the pavement, then struck 32-year-old Kathryn Steinle in the back, causing her to die two hours later at a hospital. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez was arrested and charged with her murder.[1] Lopez-Sanchez was an illegal immigrant from Mexico who had previously been deported on five different occasions.[2]

Felipe Samuel Rivera Rodriguez, 24, of 1717 Durham St., Lot 114, was arrested by the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office and charged with felony statutory rape of a person 13, 14, or 15 years old and felony indecent liberties with a child. Alexander, Arkansas police believe Mexican illegal immigrant Jose-Manuel Garcia Gonzalez raped a 5-year-old child before attempting to flee the country to avoid arrest. Manuel Gonzalez Gonzalez, known as Manuel Gonzalez, faces a charge of rape and sexual grooming after investigating a reported sexual assault of a 5-year-old child, though few other details are available, KATV reports. “After investigating, police identified the suspect as Gonzalez, who has been living in Alexander and Benton over the past year,” according to the news site. “While investigating, police determined that Gonzalez had found out about the investigation and might leave the country to avoid prosecution. So, Alexander PD contacted the U.S. Marshals Service to help them track down Gonzalez. Authorities caught up with the man May 11. Gonzalez is only the latest immigrant to be charged with heinous crimes while living in the country illegally.Three-time deportee Sergio Amador-Olive, 37, was arrested earlier this month at his Salt Lake City home for failing to register as a sex offender and his illegal immigration status

Police believe an illegal Mexican, who had been previously deported at least 10 times, raped a 12-year-old girl on a Greyhound bus trip through Kansas City last month.

The victim reported the rape to the Kansas City Police Department on Sept. 30 and said Tomas Martinez-Maldonado raped her on the bus during a trip along Interstate 70 three days prior, the Hays Post reports.

  • Thanks for posting this info, Nathan. I would like to add the Montana Progressive Democrats meeting this Friday in Helena. We’re continuing to organize and harness the progressive enthusiasm and commitment that came out of the 2016 election cycle. The goal is to recruit and elect Progressive Democrats locally, statewide and nationally, and advance the Progressive agenda. We want to hear from Progressive Montanans and hope to see many from the Montana Women’s March at our meeting.

Friday, January 27, 5:30 PM · Placer Hotel Lobby, 21 N. Last Chance Gulch, Helena, MT.

  • Happy #ResistTrumpTuesday. Today, I delivered the following letter to Senators Tester and Daines regarding the #SwampCabinet. Feel free to copy and paste into your own letters. Keep the pressure on. Tester already publicly opposed Devos, so I asked his staff to thank him for that.
    Dear U.S. Senator,
I am writing to ask you to oppose President Trump’s following Cabinet picks for the following reasons. Donald Trump promised to drain the swamp. Instead, his cabinet picks fill the swamp. Please reply to me and let me know how you will be voting on the following nominations.
1.?Vote No on Senator Jeff Sessions for Attorney General.
    • Senator Sessions is opposed to voting rights. This is bad for voting rights in Montana. He also supports additional barriers to voting. This is bad for voter access in Montana. Support voting rights and oppose Sessions.
    • Sessions opposes Equal Pay for Equal Work for women. This is wrong. He opposed the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act of 2009, showing his opposition to Women’s equality. Support women’s equality and oppose Sessions.
    • Sessions opposed Title X funding for contraception, breast cancer screening and other health services for women. My mother is a breast cancer survivor. Cancer screening saves lives. Support health care for women and oppose Sessions.
    • Sessions repeatedly voted to defund Planned Parenthood and opposed reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act in 2013. Sessions is against reproductive health access for women and protection from violence. Support Women’s health and safety and oppose Sessions.
2.?Vote No on Betsy Devos for Secretary of Education.
    • Betsy Devos is unqualified to be Secretary of Education. She has no experience working in the public education system, ever. Support quality public education and oppose Devos.
    • Devos does not understand the importance of affordable child care or the relationship between early childhood success and academic success. I paid $9,000 in child care last year. It is unaffordable in Montana and hard to find! Other working moms across Montana are in the same difficult position. Devos also does understand or support the importance of public pre-kindergarten for our children, which is a proven investment in our early learners. Support quality affordable child care and public pre-kindergarten for our kids. Oppose Devos.
    • Devos does not understand or support affordable college tuition. I have over $80,000 in student debt and my monthly payments are more than the mortgage payment. The high cost of higher education is unacceptable. Support quality affordable public higher education and oppose Devos.
    • Devos does not understand rural areas, like Rural Montana. “School Choice”, vouchers, and charters, threaten to harm our rural small schools. Montana has good public schools. Protect our public schools and oppose Devos.
3.?Vote No on Scott Pruitt for the Environmental Protection Agency.
    • Pruitt has a conflict of interest, taking money from and siding with the fossil fuel industry over citizens. Pruitt’s record shows a clear pattern of taking action on behalf of the industry and companies that have supported his campaigns, PACs, and organizations that he has been affiliated with, like the Republican Attorney General Association (RAGA). He has taken accepted donations for those organizations from fossil fuel interests immediately before or immediately after taking actions that benefited those same interests. Protect public health and the environment and oppose Pruitt.
    • Scott Pruitt’s PACs and RAGA raised significant amounts of money from fossil fuel companies. These are the very same companies that EPA is charged with overseeing. Pruitt has a massive conflict of interest. Pruitt also would not promise to recuse himself from unresolved lawsuits he brought against the EPA as Oklahoma attorney general, showing that he wants to play plaintiff, defendant, judge, and jury all at once—and setting up yet another massive conflict of interest. Oppose these conflicts of interest and oppose Pruitt.
    • Pruitt and his allies in Congress, including Senator James Inhofe and Senator John Barrasso, are tangled in a web of climate denial and the fossil fuel money that funds it. This is bad for Montana. We are already seeing record temperatures, wild fires, drought, low flows and impacts to agriculture. We need visionary leaders that will balance the impacts of client change.
    • Pruitt is out of touch with the science on protecting public health from dangerous pollutants. Pruitt said he hasn’t reviewed the science on lead in drinking water. He admitted he was ignorant about childhood asthma rates in his state, Oklahoma.
    • After noting that, as part of his “unprecedented, secretive alliance” with large fossil fuel companies, Pruitt has joined fourteen polluter suits against lifesaving clean air and health protections, Senator Cory Booker asked “Did you even file one lawsuit on behalf of kids with asthma from their pollution?” The answer, for those keeping track at home, is no.
    • Pruitt said he believes mercury is a dangerous substance that should be limited under the Clean Air Act, even though he joined a major lawsuit to block federal standards that reduce mercury from power plants.
    • Since Pruitt took office as Oklahoma Attorney General, extensive fracking made his state the most seismically active state in the lower 48. Pruitt did nothing to rein in fossil fuel companies; yet now he admits it’s “very concerning.”
    • Protect our State’s and Nation’s clean air and drinking water. Oppose Scott Pruitt.
    Warm regards,
    Your signature.

  • I am attempting to reach an individual(s) from your organization to speak with concerning the Democratic candidates who are being considered for the House seat vacated by Ryan Zinke and will be voted on this Sunday in Helena. I will be leaving for Helena on Saturday after lunch. I am looking for the candidate(s) that your organization feels can beat the Republican, can get reelected in 1 1/2 years, and that your organization will be willing to get behind with its dollars, time, and energy. I believe that this is one of the most important races that we have had in a long time, and whether he/she is an “asshole” or “nice person” is not a good enough reason. It must be well thought out. I am looking forward to hearing from you. I am hoping that I can get a ranking of several candidates – so if your first choice is not selected at the convention, you will be willing to support another candidate.

    Thank you,

    Paula Schilke
    Yellow County Democratic State Committeewoman

    • I hope you check back, Paula. I don’t have your email and I must be working off an old list because I don’t see you on the Democratic Party’s excel spreadsheet for Yellowstone County.

I’ll try to answer your questions with this caveat: this is my personal opinion and doesn’t reflect the thoughts of other contributors at this site or organizations I’m involved with.

In my mind, there are three candidates who are poised to be the top vote getters: Amanda Curtis, Kelly McCarthy and Rob Quist. Any one of these three would represent us well in Washington.

I’m backing Amanda and here’s why:

      1) She has the experience as a legislator and as a statewide candidate.

      2) Amanda has a team ready to hit the ground running to turn out the votes.

      3) She is a young, articulate, progressive woman and a fighter (and we could certainly use more of those in Washington). To me, she represents the future of the Montana Democratic Party.

      4) She’s the genuine article — not a waffling politician — we know where she stands on the issues. As we learned from the November election, being genuine counts (Trump was considered “genuine” because of his outrageous comments and actions, although over half the electorate did realize that he was as phony as a three dollar bill).

That’s my two cents worth. Thanks for asking, Paula.
