A Gentle Reminder About Ryan Zinke’s Real Second Amendment Record

Given that Congressman Zinke’s campaign has released an entirely dishonest ad about the Second Amendment this week, it seems appropriate to repost this mock ad from 2014, which exposes just how disingenuous and inconsistent Congressman Zinke has been on the issue of gun rights. His “lifetime” commitment is a farce, as a look at his record, statements to Project Vote Smart, and NRA rating demonstrate. Before his first race for Congress, his lifetime rating from the NRA was 42%.

Perhaps he now believes in every extremist position the NRA advances, but it’s hard to trust a person who claims something a core value when he didn’t believe it just a few years earlier. His absolutist position on guns now is wrong, and his shifting position is just further evidence that the man cannot be trusted.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.

  • What will Hillary push on Bill Bullock and Denise Juneau? What choice will they have? Of course Ms. Juneau supports Hillary. Ms. Juneau believes the Hillary/Obama current Syrian vetting is sufficient as she stated in the recent debate. What will happen with the clean coal initiative? Suggest you have lunch in Coal Strip and chat with some of those fine people.

  • Think people. Your push back against Mr. Zinke is a vote for Mr. Bullock, Ms. Juneau, Hillary, and Obama’s clean coal tax. Not only will we lose those jobs in Colstrip and the tax revenue provided by those jobs, but also the Coal tax. This impacts our property tax for all Montanans. I remember the initial goal when they started Colstrip was to grow the rainy day fund to where Montanans wold not have to pay any property tax. The interest generated from the fund would cover the equivalent in what we pay in taxes. Perhaps this is where our focus should be with rebuilding this rainy day fund and stopping the politicians from dipping into it to buy votes, etc.

  • I’d just like to say that you guys probably don’t even know that Ryan Zinke is a retired Navy Seal, and was in fact part of Seal Team Six (not when they captured Bin Laden) but he deserves just as much respect as any other Navy Seal or Veteran that is either serving now or did serve in the past.

    • I assume this comment is satire. There’s not a single person within 800 miles of Montana who doesn’t know that Mr. Zinke was a SEAL.

What does that have to do with his flip flops on gun rights?

      • As any intelligent person recalls from the John Kerry days, the term flip-flopping is used disingenuously by both parties for even intelligent evolutions, so I can’t respect your objection. Years ago I too believed in the liberal bull on guns. Then I began to think for myself. Daines or any other politician is allowed to do the same. If you look at MT politicians, Tester took a true pro-2A position, and Amanda Curtis took a deceitful one, and it looks like voters saw through it. They voted for Tester and against Curtis. And Daines is obviously better than any Democratic alternative that believes in government registry.

  • Yes, we all know Mr Zinke is a SEAL and most if us have total respect and thanks for his sacrifices and service to our country to ensure our freedom and safety.

    • Sorry Mr. Bill, but I don’t recall seeing either you OR Slinky in Nam. I think you fellas were still sh*tting yellow when us REAL vets were doing our duty. Slinky the Barking Seal don’t impress real vets much. Too much football without a helmet@!

  • What a foolish video. To say Rep Zinke is undecided on any of the questions is a lie. The only people who are fooled are those who are too ignorant to look at the source material.

Looking at the Vote Smart data, Ryan Zinke answered undecided to the incorrectly worded questions. Looking at the questions, and Rep Zinke’s answers, you can assume that undecided = partly yea and partly no to the overly broad questions.

    • There are three problems with your defense of Mr. Zinke.

      1. PVS allows the candidates to explain their positions.
      2. It takes a very generous reading to give him credit for not taking a stand on some of those questions.
      3. If you don’t believe me, ask the NRA. It rated him at 42%. Surely, they had a metric by which they came to that score.

  • Mr. Zinke 2016 57% vote Smart data. Mr. Zinke received an A-minus score in 2014. Denise Juneau not rated. Mr. Zinke stated the National Rifle Association marked him down when he was a legislator because he opposed a bill that would have stripped Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks of its responsibility to control guns and ammunition of hunters. He said he stands by his opposition.
