During the Senate debate over the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, Democratic Senator Brian Schatz offered an amendment designed to show which US Senators believe that global warming “is real” and that “human activity significantly contributes to it.” Fully 49 members of the Senate voted no, that human activity does not significantly impact global warming. Among them, Montana’s creationist Senator, Steve Daines.
It shouldn’t come as any surprise that someone who may believe the Earth is only 6,000 years old also believes that human beings are not significantly responsible for climate change. In doing so, Daines aligned himself with the scientific thinking of Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe:
Scientists, of course, have a slightly different view, with 97% of those expressing an opinion on whether or not humans contribute to global warming arguing that we do. Senator Daines is certainly entitled to his own beliefs; he’s just not entitled to his own science.
