Today the Missoulian featured a short piece about volunteers with the AmeriCorps VISTA program who visited schools across Missoula to discuss the continuing significance of Martin Luther King, Jr. One section of the article is particularly powerful:
Christianson occasionally stopped his reading, peppering the kindergartners with questions about King and the importance of human rights for all.
“Can somebody tell me what is so important about Martin Luther King Jr.?” he asked.
Two dozen hands shot up, one belonging to a little boy who answered: “He wanted everything to be fair.”
We still live in a time where too much remains unfair, whether it’s the shrinking middle class in America, a lack of equal marriage, 1 in 6 Americans going hungry, attacks on unions and collective bargaining, or rampant xenophobia.
There is still so much more work to be done and continuing that work is what makes us Democrats. So, this coming Monday, let’s take time to think about what we do to continue MLK’s mission of making ‘everything fair.’

There is unfortunately no longer any sort of effective organized resistance against our plutocracy. The unions are busted. THEY, along with the commies in the thirties, were really the only effective method for wresting meager concessions from the plutocrats, and only becuase they had muscle. It’s game over now. No organization with muscle left. A disorganized army is a useless army. The plutocrats won. And they have massive police forces to keep any resistance intimidated. Third world here we come! Oh wait, we’ve arrived.
To protect and serve……………the plutocracy!

I’m not sure plutocracy is the root of police brutality, Larry. Otherwise, wouldn’t police be less brutal in places like Vietnam, India, Egypt or Algeria, where incomes are more equal than here?

Ok, so i thought i was alone on here as the only one who had had annoyingly frustrating experiences (just three, actually) with self check outs. I assume you mean the computers that do it efficiently’. They never work for me. They have recently put ones in Big W and we just go to the people now. I really dont like self check outs.
But, on the Awesome Thing posted: Even better is with canteen lines at school. Especially when you have to buy recess or get your lunch and you have to go somewhere right at the start of the break. And then you’re waiting in line for about 10 minutes 😐
