More Bold Leadership From Dennis Rehberg on the Budget

Mike Dennison captures Dennis Rehberg in all his glory:

Rehberg also said Congress should pass a balanced-budget amendment to force spending reductions – but wouldn’t identify where Congress should cut the budget.
In fact, he said he would fight against cuts that hurt rural areas and that he’ll “stand with Montana’s seniors against any effort to undermine (Medicare.)”

Rehberg won’t support any increased tax revenue so if Congress were to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment, they would only need to find approximately 1.4 trillion dollars to cut this year and 1.2 trillion next year—and Rehberg can’t name a single program he’d cut.

This is the same clown who didn’t bother to read the recommendations from the Debt Commission, couldn’t make up his mind on the devastating Ryan budget, and who was a Congressional Pork King before getting (sort of) religion on earmarks.

Instead of offering real solutions, Rehberg spends his day sending out talking points straight from the RNC about the budget, never for a moment confronting his own incredible hypocrisy and inaction.

Rehberg can have staff tweet things like “It’s been 800 days since Senate Democrats passed a budget” all day, but as he notes, it’s the responsibility of the House to craft a budget—and I’m pretty sure that a member of the Appropriations Committee should have some say.

And of course, once again for the sake of truth (something Rehberg is entirely unfamiliar6a00d83451b33869e20128765e5d28970c-800wi with), what really caused the deficit to explode during the first decade of the century, when he was in Congress?

The Iraq and Afghanistan Wars, which he voted for and the Bush tax cuts, which he also voted for.

Given that kind of culpability, it seems fair to ask Representative Rehberg how to fix it. So what is it, Representative Rehberg? Without touching Medicare or the military or agriculture subsidies, just to name a few items, how would you propose trimming a trillion or so from the federal budget?

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
