Fox News Story You Don’t Want to Miss

Talk about a headline I never imagined I would write.

When Fox News thinks the Montana Legislature is out of control, you know it’s absolutely out of control. While I honestly can’t tell if the piece is meant to be news or opinion (it is Fox, after all), Kelly David Burke describes what a number of us, including a majority of the public, are seeing on the ground here in Montana—and what it might mean for the GOP:

It may be easy to dismiss comments like Schweitzer’s as an attempt by a Democrat to belittle the Tea Party movement, but a real danger does exist for the GOP just as the 2012 election campaigns get under way — this scattershot of odd bills could create backlash among a general public crying for local, state and federal government to focus on jobs and the economy as the nation ever so slowly emerges from a two-year recession.

Of course, the governor got in a well-timed shot, too:

“Some of these legislators, they draft bills just to get an effect from the people,” Montana Gov. Brian Schweitzer told Fox News. “And unfortunately, it kind of makes some of them look bat-crap crazy.”

Both Schweitzer and Burke are probably being too generous. It’s hardly a “scattershot” of odd bills and “kind of” is an awfully compassionate qualifier.

Perhaps the real reason the GOP seems to be pushing so hard for an absolutely illogical early final day followed by a special session is just to get some of their people to stop embarrassing the party and the state for a little while.

One can hope, right?

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
