From Denny Rehberg to the Unemployed: Screw You!

It would seem that the sleeping dolt has awakened. Desperate to do anything to appear worth his $174,000 annual salary from Congress, it seems Representative Rehberg lately is willing to do just about anything to get in the news. Unfortunately, his latest effort? Fighting benefits for the unemployed:

Republicans in the House of Representatives blocked legislation early Thursday morning that would provide additional benefits to the long-term unemployed….

Rep. Denny Rehberg (R-Mont.) then used a parliamentary maneuver to successfully block the amendment.

“An amendment to an appropriation bill shall not be in order in changing existing law,” said Rehberg. “The amendment directly changes existing law.”

Rehberg and his Republican leaders certainly have an interesting idea about shared sacrifice during difficult economic times. Massive tax cuts for the super-rich and multinational corporations? Absolutely! Assistance for the unemployed? Play parliamentary games so they don’t even have to debate it.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
