Your Republican Legislature: Fighting Government Intrusion, Other Than For Women

Charles Johnson has a great, but sobering story today about one of the potential outcomes of the Republican majority: punitive, lunatic, fringe restrictions on the rights of women to have an abortion.

It’s the whole list of attacks on reproductive health:

  • criminalizing abortion
  • defining life as the moment an egg is fertilized
  • allowing any kind of protest outside abortion clinics
  • requiring ultrasounds

It makes you wonder if the people who decided this election wasn’t important and sat it out might not regret their decisions.

Update: Emilie Ritter has more about the story.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.

  • Don,

The article by Charles Johnson which you call "a great, but sobering story" has one great ans sobering error throughout. Those quoted from PP and NARAL continually (and I might add, purposfully) use the term "pregnancy prevention" when discussing abortion. These folks will do just about anything but speak honestly and truthfully. Once fertilization takes place there is a pregnancy. They have in times past used the term "terminate the pregnancy" but now too many people know that a pregnancy means there is a baby involved. There was a day in which these folks tries to convice us it was "just a blob of tissue." Let's face it….if truth telling ever catches on, PP, NARAL and their friends will loose the arguement. I hope you are stressing with your students the need to be truthful in their debate and not just the "winner."

    Respectfully,

    Steven James
