Ladies and Gentlemen, Your Secretary of State in Action

Maybe it’s time for a change in the Secretary of State’s office.

Mesaros said the term limits issue with his candidacy didn’t come up until Feb. 29, when it was mentioned by someone attending a campaign fundraiser for him in Helena.

Mesaros notified election officials in the secretary of state’s office the next week, and they determined that he could not be certified as a candidate, because of term limits and a 1997 opinion by then-Attorney General Joe Mazurek.

“We just made an error when we accepted the paperwork (in January),” said Bowen Greenwood, spokesman for Secretary of State Brad Johnson. “Mesaros and Republican Party officials came in (last week) and very graciously pointed it out.”

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
