Montana Blog Roundup

montanablogup Inspired by Jay’s always interesting ‘Links’ posts and even The Montana Misanthrope’s new “Writing Rightly” selections, I’ve decided to add a little feature of my own, a roundup of some of the most interesting posts in the Montana Blog world. I don’t anticipate my choices being fair or entirely rational, but the posts themselves are guaranteed to entertain, or your money back.

(I might work on a real logo one of these days, too). So, without further ado, the first Montana Blog Roundup.

The most interesting story of the week is certainly the arrest of Dillon’s own Moorcat, covered in depth by Jay Stevens and Moorcat himself. Dave Budge uses the arrest and discussion to argue that governments have abused their power since well before 9/11.

David Crisp describes the challenge of publishing an independent weekly newspaper, wondering about the viability of newspapers in general along the way.

Rebecca absolutely owns the the right wing noise machine on global warming over at Scoop Montana. I’ve got to admit these people terrify me just a little bit; I just hope that if I ever have a brain tumor I don’t get a surgeon who believes that his common sense insights about the brain are more valid than scientific consensus.

Montana Headlines argues that Mike Huckabee has already broken into the top tier of the Republican candidates. It makes sense; if a fatigued, elderly gentleman with an undistinguished acting career can make the top tier, how hard can it be?

Allyson writes that birth control prices are going to skyrocket for young women, while Mark Tokarski suggests that government support for birth control is government sponsored promiscuity. He might want to talk to the anti-global warming crowd about science sometime.

Ed Kemmick covers a lot of ground in this post, but I was most interested in his observation about Montana’s online newspapers: they’re largely disasters to navigate. Amen, sir.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.
