Burns Not Under Investigation? Did I Miss Something?

Is this just an offhand remark in the Washington Post, or did I miss some breaking news?

In Montana, Sen. Conrad Burns (R) is apparently not under investigation but has been roasted in the news media by Democrat Jon Tester because of his ties to Abramoff.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.

  • Don, maybe you don’t have the connections in the Justice Department that WP reporters do. As for the mess surrounding this topic, you might want to think in terms of media analysis. Lee Newspapers controls a significant portion of Montanans’ outlooks if you’ve ever studied the topic of mass media and politics. And we all know that Lee has roasted Burns on this issue. I wonder what the bias is at Lee headquarters? Last I knew, Americans are innocent until proven guilty. And guilty he may never be. Especially if he isn’t being investigated. Maybe Montanans ought to be privy to all the facts without speculative commentary and slanted statements. Unfortunately, too many of our fellow Montanans believe everything they see and read without studying and exploring multiple sources before coming to any conclusion. Its human nature, but it’s irritating. Especially when a school teacher falls for it.

  • So my post was somewhat tongue in cheek, largely because the WP hasn’t really reported very well on this issue at all. Given the repeated suggestion that he is under investigation by the WP, not Lee, I wondered if I had missed something–or if the reporter was just spitballing.

Lee’s bias? Yeah, they’ve been pretty hard hitting. Letting Burns repeatedly lie in debates, run press releases about appropriations that might not come, looking into the Marianas issue. You can do better than media bias, right? It’s such a tired, disproven, weak argument.

And yes, I am definitely an idiot. I read something, and like magic, it jumps in my brain and becomes true. Honestly, if Jason Klindt says “east coast liberal” one more time, I’m going to believe it.

    Thanks for the comment.

  • TS…here is the thing…what facts aren’t being discussed in public that clear Burns of the dirty money trade? The right certainly spends their time complaining about the media bias (come on, Lee newspapers going after Burns? that’s a joke, right?) but not defending the actual Burns situation because there is nothing to defend. Burns traded his vote for cash. Period.

  • Oh, who will be the hero to finally expose Burn’s innocence? Who indeed?

How many anonymous sources will continue to crawl out of the woodwork with sinister allusions of the Connie’s purity before we see the error of our ways?

Which anonymous commenter will finally release the secret tape recording that will magically absolve our junior senator from his own record?
