They Have No Shame

There needs to be a reckoning for the sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends and family killed for no reason other than neocon fantasy.

I’ve avoided writing extensively about the Cindy Sheehan protest in Texas, because others (including her) have said much more eloquently what her protest is about, why she is making the sacrifices she is.

What is truly repulsive is the Right Wing smear campaign, which gets more desperate each day. Today, Michelle Malkin offers up an unconfirmed report that Cindy Sheehan’s husband has filed for divorce, pimped from some Dang if I Know. Malkin goes to far as to post an official-looking snippet from a document that is clearly manufactured…Hmm, I thought those were wrong–but maybe just when they are about President Bush’s coke filled days in the Texas National Guard?

The point is not whether or not this is true. The point is that a family’s personal struggles are not fodder for public ‘debate’. Why can’t the GOP and its little, angry hatchetmen in blogs justify this war on its merits? Why does every critic get torn down personally? Because there is no justifcation for this war, for the deaths of American and Iraqi men and women. What have we accomplished? What do we hope to? There needs to be a reckoning for the sons and daughters, mothers and fathers, friends and family killed for no reason other than neocon fantasy.

Perhaps the Cunning Realist says it best:

Something else about this story that infuriates me is the vision of feckless, smarmy smearsters and cowards hiding behind keyboards in cities like Washington and New York (and yes, Miami), punching out electronic missives in a pathetic and desperate attempt to impugn the integrity of a woman sitting in the dust and August heat of Texas—a woman who, along with her dead son, embodies everything that’s right about this country. The growing division between the professional class of spinning punditry and the vast expanse of Middle America that actually does the working, the fighting and the dying so the pundits can spend their time chattering has never been more clear than with this story.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we would certainly appreciate it.

  • Well said! I’m writing from the United Kingdom. This story is regularly featured on our news shows here too.

Truth is that the lies of Michelle Malkin and her desperate brood of vipers don’t stand up any more. This is their dying squeal and they have no shame.

It will have occurred to Bill O’Reilly and Michelle Malkin that they’re finished. The lies they’ve perpetuated have resulted in:

    1) a lost war and the possibility of a civil war.
    2) dangerous instability in the Middle East.
    3) the creation of a terrorist state where it didn’t previously exist.
    4) a growing alliance between Iran and Iraq where it didn’t previously exist.
    5) America is now the world’s most heavily indebted country.
    6) 25% of all US treasuries are now owned by China.
    7) nearly two thousand American soldiers have fallen.
    8) many thousands more American soldiers are maimed.
    9) untold thousands of Iraqi’s lie dead.
    10) the explosion of fuel prices.
    11) a reduction in fuel security for the USA.
    12) the theft of billions of dollars from the American people by corporations such as Haliburton.
    13) etc.

The soldiers in Iraq have been trained to protect America. When they return from Iraq, guess who they’re going to turn on? The lying days of Michelle Malkin, Bill O’Reilly and others is coming to an end, regardless of whether the Cindy Sheehan protest continues. The American people know it. The shameless lying has been bad for America and the American people will hold them ALL to account. They know it, they’re afraid and that’s why they’re still desperately trying to lie their way out like never before. Shameless, rotten liers from start to end, and they dare accuse Cindy Sheehan of treason!

  • “Cindy treated it [the Quartarolo letter] with a shrug. Her husband will send out a more detailed response soon. In the meantime, Cindy says the letter is to be treated as little more than bad, dumb noise.”

The more detailed response has been released. He filed for divorce.

  • It will be interesting to see how the ‘family values’ crowd will spin this one. By their standards, it would seem somewhat immoral, I would think, to divorce Mrs. Sheehan in this moment of difficulty.

Somehow, I expect to see Mr. Sheehan on Hannity and Colmes by Tuesday evening.
