URGENT: Make Sure That Your Absentee Ballot Will Be Counted!

If you have already voted this fall, please take one minute more to make sure that your ballot will be counted by your county elections office.  With just days to go, we’re receiving isolated reports of ballots not being counted for signature mismatches or not being reported as being received at county election offices.

This afternoon, a voter reported that her ballot was rejected by the County Election Office for a “Signature Mismatch” and another reported that the ballots she and her husband mailed in ten days ago had not been received.

That’s why it’s so important to, once you have mailed or dropped off your ballot, check that the ballot has been accepted. It couldn’t be easier to check: simply visit the Secretary of State’s My Voter Page, which will tell you when your ballot was received and whether it was accepted.

If your ballot has not been received or was not accepted, don’t panic. There’s still time to make sure that your voice will be heard.

First, contact your County Elections Office to see what steps you need to take.

If your issue isn’t resolved there, contact the Montana Voter Protection Hotline at 866-439-5008. A human will answer the phone there and help with rejected ballots, signature issues, or questions about your status as a voter.

The county elections officers who run the elections in Montana are dedicated professionals who absolutely want your vote to count, so I’m certain they will help voters with issues on their ballots.

If your ballot was rejected or not received and you’re willing to comment, please let me know, too.

I have an e-mail into my local Elections Office to see if voters are typically notified when their ballots are rejected but don’t expect to hear back until Monday. I’ll update this story with a comment when I hear back.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we\'d certainly appreciate it.
