Missoula Rises has organized this event, Keep The Indy Open: Community Protest at the Missoulian: RSVP HERE

The event starts at 4:30 pm today and will be ongoing well into the evening until 7:30 pm. The location is at the Missoulian offices at 500 South Higgins in Missoula.

From the event description:

Our message is simple and clear – this community values the free and independent thinking, writing and reporting of The Independent.

Consequently, we demand that Lee Enterprises and Matt Gibson negotiate with Independent employees in an effort to keep the Indy open. Respect this community’s call for independent journalism. Respect the employees of the Independent.

We MUST HAVE a large turnout on the door of the Missoulian. Today, 4:30-7:30 pm. Come when you can. Petitions, both on-line and in person, will be available.

A little about Missoula Rises, from their website:

Missoula Rises is a community-led, local group committed to the protection of the rights of our community members. Our group serves Missoula, the Bitterroot Valley and surrounding areas. We seek to effectuate local change with the intent that our local work will eventually have an impact on a larger scale. We are non-partisan and inclusive. Diversity is key. We seek input from all people and understand the success of our message depends on the diversity of voices. Missoula Rises will further the protection of human rights through: education, dialogue, vigilance, accountability and activism.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we\'d certainly appreciate it.
