Americans misplaced god-like reverence for elected officials, celebrities, charismatic personalities and the like will not solve the problems of 2018.
Kim Kardashian will not stop mass incarceration.
Matt Damon cannot solve climate change.
And Chuck Schumer surely can’t stop Trump concentration camps at our border.
Only you and I and our neighbors can stop this.
The realities of 2018 have washed away the illusions of the past. We can only defeat the rapid progression away from democracy by banding together. If you still have a grudge about the past, then you need to get over it. If you think the answer to these problems is to elect another candidate who does the bidding of Wall Street, then you need to wake up.
We will only stop these horrific policies by banding together, literally. We need to lock arms in the street and howl at the top of our lungs. We need to make Democrats and Republicans alike listen. We must make CNN cover the massive protests we will organize all over America. We must make hashtags about #OccupyICE trend.
By 2015, the Occupy movement in the U.S. had splintered off into a variety of causes. But it had a lasting effect on the national dialogue on income inequality by reframing the issue as 99% of Americans versus the wealthy 1%. The movement also drummed up more concern about the influence the wealthy have on national politics.
Now, with Occupy ICE, protestors are using the same tactics that made income inequality a major political issue by focusing them on the immigration crisis. The Occupy banner gives anti-ICE protestors an established playbook to follow and helps to provide a unified front for the movement across the country.

IMPORTANT: A Step-by-Step Guide to Direct Action
This video on Facebook is brilliant and lays out a time-tested strategy for defeating authoritarianism, peaceful mass protests in the streets everywhere is the most proven way to win.
How to defeat authoritarianism. Here’s a time-tested way to defeat authoritarianism, and we may need to use it sooner than we think: VIDEO
Bernie Sanders also lays it rather clearly:
If we don’t stand up, speak out and band together then we will continue to see worse and worse things happen, like this:
Immigration Attorney says ICE broke her foot, locked her up via The Daily Beast
An immigration attorney said an Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer broke her foot and locked her in a room early Tuesday morning in Kansas City, Missouri.
Andrea Martinez told The Daily Beast she was dropping off a 3-year-old immigrant at an ICE facility to be reunited with his mother before they are to be deported to Honduras. Martinez said she was accompanying the boy, his pregnant mother, and his mother’s boyfriend—all of whom are undocumented—into an ICE field office, but Martinez was denied access. That’s when Martinez said she was “knocked to the ground and bloodied” by an ICE officer.
We Have a Crisis of Democracy, Not Manners via New York Times
Whether or not you think public shaming should be happening, it’s important to understand why it’s happening. It’s less a result of a breakdown in civility than a breakdown of democracy. Though it’s tiresome to repeat it, Donald Trump eked out his minority victory with help from a hostile foreign power. He has ruled exclusively for his vengeful supporters, who love the way he terrifies, outrages and humiliates their fellow citizens. Trump installed the right-wing Neil Gorsuch in the Supreme Court seat that Republicans stole from Barack Obama. Gorsuch, in turn, has been the fifth vote in decisions on voter roll purges and, on Monday, racial gerrymandering that will further entrench minority rule.

Sinclair Forced Its Local Stations to Discredit Outrage Over Family Separation via New York Magazine
Sinclair Broadcasting Group is the largest owner of local television news stations in the United States. It currently airs original programming on 193 channels throughout the country, enough to reach 39 percent of all American homes. By next year, it will likely reach 72 percent.
The company is also owned by a longtime Republican donor, and proudly operates as a platform for conservative propaganda. Sinclair formally promised to provide favorable coverage to Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign (in exchange for access to the GOP nominee). Since the mogul’s election, the media giant has forced all of its affiliates toair commentary that advances White House talking points.
Thus, this week, local news channels around the country informed their viewers that dishonest liberals were trying to fool them into thinking that the Trump administration had been separating migrant children from their families, in a heinously cruel bid to deter refugees from seeking asylum in the United States.

While I have lambasted political leaders and celebrities for not being able to solve this problem I still know that it is important that they speak out to inspire and fight for change too. They do not have the power to stop it, but they have the bandwidth to inspire the millions that we need.
It’s important that the women and men with aspirations to be our next president stand up and say no more to these genocidal policies that come straight out of Hitler’s playbook:
This isn’t over. Thousands of kids have been ripped from their parents with no plan to reunite them. And now @realdonaldtrump wants to create new detention camps for families. Separating kids is unacceptable – but indefinite imprisonment of families is still cruel & inhumane.

There are no Montana National Guard Troops at the southern border, because back in April I refused to send them. As a governor and as a father, I’m disgusted. I don't care if it's the President or Congress – these atrocities must end immediately.
