I’ve made little secret of the fact that while I would be excited to support any of the frontrunners in the Democratic primary to challenge Greg Gianforte, I’m most excited about the possibility of a Grant Kier win. I think he offers the best combination of a candidate who can defend and promote progressive values while appealing to a broad base of Democratic and Independent voters. I was happy to see today that he also understands the importance of Democratic unity no matter who wins the primary.
We’ve got great candidates and there are people I respect enormously who are working for and supporting each of the campaigns. I hope we can all take 24 hours after the election results are in, gather ourselves together, and then take the fight (metaphorically) to Greg Gianforte and win back Montana’s House seat for Montana’s people.
From the Kier campaign:
Grant Kier, a Democrat running for the US House of Representatives, has called on his fellow Democratic candidates to attend a Unity event after the primary, regardless of the winner.
The U.S. House Democratic Primary in Montana has been on the most crowded races in most recent history, with Democrats from all over the state trying to face Greg Gianforte in a General Election.
“My wife and I decided to enter this race because we know that Montanans deserve better representation in Congress,” Kier said. “We’re confident in winning this primary, but whatever the outcome we know that hard-working Montanans depend on winning this seat and that it’s going to take a united effort to do that—as candidates and leaders in our communities must come together quickly to tackle the challenge ahead.”
He is calling on his opponents to pledge their support to the winning candidate, by agreeing in advance of the election to participate in a unity event at the destination of the Democratic nominee’s choice.
Kier is the former Executive Director of two separate Montana Land Trusts where he worked with rural Montanans to protect family farms and ranches, expand access to public lands, and promote economic development.
