For the past 14 years, I have educated future generations and taught students skills they will use for the rest of their lives. I’ve seen how investments in public education benefit our children, and prepare them for the future. Public education provides opportunity for all Montana kids to succeed, regardless of where they live or the jobs their families depend on.
I am honored to have received a 2012 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Math Teaching, and to have been named 2018 Montana Teacher of the Year. My passion for education has benefited my career, but it has also made me mindful of how important it is to have strong advocates for public education in Congress. It’s because of that same passion for teaching that I’ve decided to endorse Grant Kier for the U.S. House.
I’m disappointed that our federal government hasn’t shown any dedication to our students or teachers. Members of Congress are more interested in giving tax breaks to the wealthy than supporting our schools. If I were grading Congress today, I don’t think they would pass.
Put simply, our country is lacking in leadership that will fight for our public schools. Our students deserve better, our teachers deserve better, and our state deserves better.
Grant Kier is the best candidate to stand up for our public education system. He came from a modest background and credits his success largely to public education. He’s also the only candidate in the House race that has been trained as a scientist, working as a geologist and engineering geophysicist before his career in conservation. He understands the importance of science and math in the classroom. Montana and our country would benefit immensely from a leader who cares so deeply about science, and solving problems.
I’m proud to endorse Grant Kier for Congress and encourage other educators to support as well. If you care about education or using evidence and facts to make decisions, then Grant Kier should be the candidate you support.
This election will be a critical one for deciding the future of our public education system. Our current Congressman has shown time and again, that public school teachers and students are not a priority. It is imperative that we replace him with someone who will be a public education champion. That champion and the best candidate to take on the incumbent is Grant Kier. I’m proud to give him my support and hope you will do the same.
