Your tax dollars pay the salaries of Steve Daines and Greg Gianforte. They make $174,000 a year to do whatever it is they do for their lobbyist and corporate pals. Daines seems to like inserting provisions in bills to cut taxes for corporations and then lying about how that helps Montanans. Gianforte likes telling Montanans to get out of his freaking face and then he just votes for ending your legal rights to sue a his banker buddies when they defraud you.
I’m not 100% sure what they do the rest of the time they are on the clock for us taxpayers. They are not available for press, they are not available for their constituents and they seem pretty busy riding horses on our dime(along with Secretary Zinke).
While these two elected disappearing acts aren’t busy with horses or lobbyists, they also like voting themselves millions of dollars through scammy bills that don’t proceed through regular order and are sprung on the American people and the media so they are impossible to digest in a normal time frame.
Montanans showed up last week to protest all over the state to voice to Gianforte and Daines their displeasure with this tax scam bill. Over 300 Missoulians braved the wintry weather and more in Bozeman, Helena, Billings, and Kalispell:
The tax bill is opposed by the overwhelming majority of Americans and today’s actions follow on the heals of weeks of similar protests throughout the country and the state.
In Bozeman, protestors were denied entry to Senator Daines’ office, while his office in Helena was inexplicably closed. The Senator and his staff likely knew of the protests since they had been planned days in advance. Protestors entered Congressman Gianforte’s office chanting “shame!”
Senator Tester is the only member of Montana’s delegation to oppose the middle class killing tax bill. Daines and Gianforte are both millionaires who stand to gain from the tax bill. Neither has held a town hall in Montana on the tax bill they are supporting.
As you might not be aware Greg Gianforte is the richest member of Congress, worth around 315 million dollars. Steve Daines, his former employee is worth around $15 million, it is estimated, though possibly more as congressional disclosure forms deal in ranges of wealth, not an exact number.
This new tax scam bill that Daines and Gianforte are championing is a really good deal for these guys and other mega-millionaires. They stand to make millions on one provision alone. The estate tax exemption is currently 11 million dollars, in this new bill it moves to 22 million dollars. So instead of being taxed on that 11 million Daines and Gianforte’s estates can avoid paying anything on the first 22 million. That’s an 11 million dollar tax difference.
Also, the savings don’t stop there, it is now being reported that the pass-through provisions that Daines worked so hard to get included enrich other elected officials and Bob Corker, Senator from Tennessee, had been a no vote until this provision that helps real estate developers get absurd tax breaks was inserted. Corker just happens to own millions in real estate.
This is a huge deal. It amounts to theft of our treasury in the tax bill by the President & Bob Corker. This needs much broader reporting.https://t.co/jCTgWA5Oom

More ways that this tax hike scam bill is enriching Republicans:
Together, our country can do more than we could do alone.
Collectively, we can create safe and vibrant communities, provide quality education, and build the buildings, roads and infrastructure our nation needs to continue growing. We can carry out the diplomacy required to build goodwill and project our values throughout the world, defend ourselves and our allies from threats and respond to emergencies. We can ensure that we all have what we need to thrive and – when times are hard – survive. And a fair tax system is the best way to enact these democratic investments.
In their hastily drafted and reconciled tax bills, donor-driven Republicans in the House of Representatives and Senate have put forward principles that would instead weaken our country. They aim to redistribute resources back up to powerful, wealthy individuals and corporations.
