Gianforte already running for 2018 election

Shares

He hasn’t even been sworn in yet but Congressman-elect Greg Gianforte has filed FEC Form 2, the Statement Of Candidacy for the 2018 midterm election. (Hat tip Elizabeth M.)

He filed on June 2 for the sole U.S. House seat from Montana. The committee’s name is the Gianforte Victory Fund. Contibutions are going to a P.O. Box in Alexandria, Virginia. One has to wonder who set that up for him.

Here’s the form he filled out.

Certainly, other candidates for the midterm elections have filed the FEC Form 2 but isn’t Gianforte jumping the gun? He hasn’t even been arraigned on his assault charge.

It’s possible he wants to raise the money to pay off his debt from the special election, which is basically a $2 million loan from him to him.

A quick call to the FEC confirmed that he can use money raised for the current cycle to pay off debt from the last cycle.

Questions on whether he’s really running won’t become apparent until July 15, when quarterly campaign reports are due. That will indicate what contributions he has received and from whom, and what expenditures he has made, especially to himself.

I’m certainly not going to ask him, in person, what’s going on. I just got new glasses.

If you appreciate an independent voice holding Montana politicians accountable and informing voters, and you can throw a few dollars a month our way, we\'d certainly appreciate it.
