Montana Women’s March

Shares

It’s hard to get an outside count at the Montana Capitol with its convex campus, paths and steps. Harsh light — white-sun background and dark-shadowed foreground — doesn’t help. But a turnout of 10,000 sounds about right for this much needed catharsis.

It could be the best thing to come out of a Trump presidency and the many Republican wins. A wake-up call, as it were.

Montanans can be a far-flung lot. Social media is all about the March and it shows Montanans in D.C., Portland, Idaho, Iowa and Boston. Then there are photos and videos from Helena, and other capitol cities, like Rome and Tokyo and London.

With a five-year old on my shoulders, a camera around my neck and a sign in my hand, note taking and photography presented a challenge. I’ll attempt to download a few photos for this post. The pictures speak louder than words, and there are a lot of great social media shots out there. Here’s a start. I’ll update this post (and work on the format) as best I can.

It was a feel good event, I have to admit, but it gave me a sense of hope during these dismal times. The work continues.

There was another Montana city that staged an organized Womens’ March: my hometown of Miles City. It was hastily put together a couple days ago, but still generated a walk up and down Main Street. We were about 50 strong, all ages, even a few who drove over from Glendive and Forsyth.

I think there were some folks in Missoula, too, though I haven’t seen anything official about that. It was a great, great day for Montana, for sure! Thanks for this, Pete!
