Another giant scoop over at Media Trackers Montana as the organization has uncovered a Facebook post critical of Wisconsin governor Scott Walker posted by members of the Big Sky Central Labor Council. The dark media “news” organization finds itself outraged by the fact that the BSCLC dared to post a poorly attributed quote attacking unions by Adolf Hitler under a photo of the embattled Wisconsin governor.
Now, the comparison to Hitler was probably juvenile, even regrettable, but certainly not something terribly serious on a Facebook page that also features comics and web memes. It’s not as if a major Montana newspaper ran an editorial with a comparison to Hitler or something, but more on that later.
What is serious, though, was something Media Trackers managed not to mention, something that could well have sparked the post—Governor Walker compared union protesters, American workers and their families, to the threat of ISIS.
No outrage from Media Trackers Montana over that comparison, nor over the clear evidence that Walker has been involved in some incredibly shady campaign finance. No, the outrage is reserved for what was likely a private member of a labor organization posting on the group’s Facebook page.
And that’s what you’d expect from a “dark media” organization created for the express purpose of digging “up dirt on the left.” Masquerading as a news organization, they exclusively run stories critical of Democrats and labor organization, often shading the truth so badly as to make it unrecognizable.
An important difference between the Big Sky Labor Council and Media Trackers Montana is that you know who funds the former: workers across the state. Media Trackers, on the other hand, is funded through secretive donations from TEA Party-affiliated groups who want to crush the labor movement in this country.
The truth is that I probably don’t write enough about labor issues on this site. The war against organized labor in this country is at the forefront of the war against the middle and working classes. If you want to drive down wages, worsen working conditions, and strip away protections in the workplace all to enrich the corporate bottom line, the best avenue of attack is to go after unions—and the existence of corporate-funded news organizations like Media Trackers MT shows just how important it is to the right to destroy organized labor.
