Go Ahead and Vote Republican

Shares

There is a reason why Montana’s Republican candidates have been engaging in stealth campaigns in the last few weeks. Despite the fact that many Montanans identify with the Republican Party, these clowns represent a radical worldview that is far out of step with the views of ordinary working Montanans, who know that the foundations of our communities are working men and women, great schools, families, and compassion. They’re hoping that traditional party affiliation will overcome their advocacy for terrible policy.

Candidates like Dennis Rehberg, Steve Daines, Tim Fox, and Rick Hill are hiding because they know every time they express their viewpoints, we’re less likely to vote for them.

This election represents a series of stark choices for voters—and the silence of Republican candidates should not be confused for moderation or reason.

  • If you believe that Montana’s excellent school system should be sold to the highest bidder…
  • If you believe that we should shift more of the burden for taxes from the wealthiest few to the middle class and poor…
  • If you believe that workers should not have the right to organize and bargain…
  • If you believe that women should have healthcare decisions made for them by people like Justice Antonin Scalia…
  • If you believe in a government surveillance of our public lands and closing access to sportsmen and women…
  • If you believe in institutionalizing discrimination against our friends and neighbors based on the people they’ve chosen to love…
  • If you believe in turning our backs on the veterans who have risked and given so much for our country…
  • If you believe that those with pre-existing conditions should not receive lifesaving medical care…
  • If you believe that we should turn Social Security and Medicare over to the very people whose greed crashed our economy…
  • If you believe that corporations are indeed people, my friends…
  • If you believe that those Confederate politicians were onto something when they argued that states could “nullify” federal law…
  • If you think the term “legitimate rape” is a useful description of sexual assault…

THEN, BY ALL MEANS, VOTE REPUBLICAN.

If you recognize that these ideas are not only backwards, but dangerous to the people of our state, you need to do more than vote. Explain what’s at stake and get three friends, co-workers, acquaintances, or strangers to vote.

Convince them to vote for an optimistic, positive vision of our state and nation. Vote for candidates who believe that our best days are ahead of us.
