Gloomy Roy: Just Walk Away

Shares

Roy Brown thinks he lost the election because he didn’t have enough money:

Republican Roy Brown says he lost by a 2-1 margin to Gov. Brian Schweitzer because the Democrats had more money to spend and used it on false attacks.

His own campaign’s money was primarily used for television spots that built his own image.

I must have missed those ads. Instead, Brown seemed to spend most of his time claiming that Montana’s economy, energy development, and future were much worse than reality. Hard to imagine that message didn’t catch on better.

  • Brown put out his pro-coal ad about two weeks before the election, and I couldn’t figure out why he’d waste that kind of money advertising himself as what our current Governor was doing.

In it, he said quite forcefully that he “would build a coal-fired power plant” and that he “would mine more coal.”

Well..? Not that I agree, but isn’t our Governor already doing tha.? He’s pushing on that coal-fired plant up there in Great Falls, and he’s coal!coal!coal! all about Otter Creek and anywhere else? Along with drill!drill!drill!

So why didn’t Brown separate himself out and waste some money to make himself something different?

I care say that many saw not much difference – but at least Schweitzer was a known – doing well in the budge department, proven to be making some cash in the minerals and oil department, and fair on taxes. Why risk someone who can’t even run a campaign versus a man who’s doing a great job getting the job done?

I’m surprised he didn’t blame it on Bill Clinton. Isn’t it always a Clinton’s fault?

  • Note to Roy Brown: If Montanans would have wanted you to be Governor, we would have given money to your campaign. You weren’t the best candidate, to put it mildly. Time to bow out and go home.
