For your consideration: Juneau for Superintendent of Public Instruction

Shares

As one point or another, I have seriously considered running for
political office and that might still be in the plans for one day for
me.  For right now, however, I am very, very happy in my career
and my connection with politics: taking shots from the sidelines.

As a teacher, it is really important to me that there is something
who shares my beliefs in education sitting in the Superintendent of
Public Instruction seat.

As a teacher, it is really important to me that there is something
who shares my beliefs in education sitting in the Superintendent of
Public Instruction seat.  My career began with Nancy Keenan in
that position, someone I felt shared my values as an  educator.
I have been less than impressed with the current administration, and
especially disappointed when Linda McCullough came out in favor of
the defense of marriage thing in 2004, a position she really need to
take to win her reelection.

As we work into the 2008 season (and McCullough oddly seems to be
considering a run for other office??!), there are a few interesting
candidates candidates but honestly, there is really one that I would
encourage you to consider.

Denise Juneau, who is the Director of Indian Education at
OPI, would make an outstanding Superintendent.   She is
bright, articulate and more importantly, solidly progressive.  For me, I believe she shares my vision for Montana's schools: smartly schools that provide many opportunities for schools while holding professionals accountable.

For those of you in Helena, Denise is holding her first
fund-raiser on Monday, June 25th at 808 8th Avenue from 5pm-8pm.
I get a feeling that primary will feature stiff competition this
election season and although the Republicans have yet to put up a
really competitive candidate for the Superintendent position, she
could face face an expensive race should be appear in the general
election.

I would encourage you to read up on Denise .  If you are so
inclined, donate cash money or time to her campaign.  Most
importantly, please be informed about the race for the Superintendent
of Public Instruction. The office is important for schools and the
direction of education in our state.
