Meagher County Notes and More

I didn’t get any answer when I called for an explanation of their missing vote results. Historically, the county is a strong Republican county, with Bush beating Kerry 698-247 in 2000, and Bush defeating Gore 698-176.

In the primary, Tester, Candee, Morrison, and Richards received 116 votes to 397 for the Republican candidates.

Hotline is reporting that 21,000 absentee ballots have not been counted yet:

An aide to Sen. Conrad Burns (R) tells the Hotline this morning that Burns has no plans to concede the MT Senate race anytime soon. The aide said that 21K absentee ballots have yet to be counted and other counties still haven’t finished canvassing their regular returns. Democratic officials are confident that Jon Tester (D) will win.

Update: Yellowstone is a mystery to me. The votes have reappeared on the Secretary of State and CNN pages, but ABC just interviewed the Yellowstone County election official, who was recounting the votes “live.” I’ve got live in quotes because it was dark outside while the interview was happening, which doesn’t make any sense.

  • You’ve probably heard, but I thought I’d mention that they’re recounting all of the Yellowstone County votes.

  • Yeah. This is crazy. They pulled the votes, then restored then, and now I just saw the Elections official in Yellowstone counting again.

  • On the a.m. news, the Yellowstone County election administrator said they had new software on the counting machines, and he was supposed to push “reset” after counting the absentee ballots. He was pretty sure he pushed on one machine, but couldn’t remember exactly whether the other machine was reset. So, he decided to do a complete recount.
