Conservatives Agree: Out of State Campaign Funding a Bad Sign

Sean Hannity’s favorite Democrat, Joe Lieberman, is receiving some support from the good people at RedState, who are convinced that the fact that Ned Lamont is raising money from outside Connecticut demonstrates the weakness of his campaign. When not needlessly bashing the mother of a son killed in the war, they write:

Even more discouraging to the leftist netroot challenge to Senator Lieberman, 70% of the $800,000 came from outside Connecticut.

Using that rationale, I’m sure that the conservatives at Red State must be positively apoplectic about Conrad Burns’ fundraising, which, according to the latest update from Open Secrets, isn’t exactly rolling in from Montana:

In-State vs. Out-of-State:

legend In-State $726,233 (22.0%)
legend Out-of-State $2,567,906 (78.0%)
legend No State $15,250 (0.5%)

Maybe there were a lot of ordinary Montanans at that D.C. golf tournament, or the D.C. lobbyist funded birthday party, or the $2,000/person tour of the NAPA valley.

Update: TPM reports that Lamont is actually ahead in a head to head poll with Lieberman for the first time, though he still loses in a three way race.
